If you look…

If you look far enough
You can find a man
who wears a tutu
and dances like a bird.

If you look wide enough
You can see the endless sea
going back and forth,
back and forth,
Unmoved by motion
Uncaring of stillness.

If you look back
You can remember happier times
Fruits giving you pleasure.
Joy from a song.
Clothes that always fit.
Words trilled in laughter.

If you look high enough
There are the forbidden drugs
That night of mad, frenzied sex.
A torn négligée, bitten neck,
Drunken epiphanies.

When you look low,
It’s a play on words
Writing poetry after midnight
Watching a man in a tutu
With perfectly painted-lips
Screaming in scarlet
Fluttering around lights
Cooing a swan song
like a pretty, lovelorn dove.

When you look low,
There’s no one to actually see.
There’s no one to hold you.
There’s nothing to be done.
You cannot forget how.
You cannot remember why.

So you’d rather look for that man
In his tutu and arched brows
Who gives you wings to fly
Who can sing you poetry
Court you with whimsy
And meaning be damned.

About Bhumika's Boudoir

I love to laugh, and end up being a part of high drama and stormy emotion even when I don't pursue it. Being creative, and communicating with people get me going. I enjoy all the good things in life especially those that are slightly risque, and apologise little, if ever, for all that I do. Literature is a passion and so is music.

Beautifully and eloquently done. To say this blows my mind would sound much too trivial. Thanks for attempting a task that I simply cannot – poetry. Wonderful poetry.

hey liked it despite looking far and wide, high n low! 🙂
One can sense much feelings you’ve painted your poem with. Loved it could be an understatement.
